SwitchPicks

How we test and score

Every pick is evaluated by feel and sound first, then by value at its price tier -- because the keyboard community can tell the difference between a good lube job and a bad one.

Who reviews these picks

Jordan Marsh, Keyboard builder since 2019

Jordan has lubed, filmed, and modded hundreds of switches across linear, tactile, and clicky families. SwitchPicks reviews reflect hands-on sound and feel testing, not spec sheets.

What we score on

Every pick is judged on the same criteria. We weight them by what actually matters for the way you will use the gear, then write up the tradeoffs honestly.

Actuation feel

Smoothness of travel, tactile bump clarity, and absence of scratchiness or wobble at the stem.

Sound profile

Thock, clack, or click character; resonance with and without foam; how the switch performs post-lube.

Build quality

Housing tolerance, stem wobble, spring ping, and consistency across a 70-count bag.

Modding headroom

How much the switch rewards lubing, filming, and spring swapping versus diminishing returns.

Value at tier

Price per switch or per set against the feel and customization ceiling -- budget picks must beat switches twice their cost on smoothness.

How our picks work

Each category roundup is ranked by our editorial score. The highest-scored option carries the Top Pick badge. Separately, the option that delivers the most for the money carries the Best Value badge. They are often different products on purpose: the best-scored is not always the smartest buy for most people, and we tell you which is which.

What we never do

  • We take no payment, free product, or sponsorship in exchange for coverage or a ranking. There are no paid placements.
  • We say what is wrong with a product, not just what is right. Every pick lists real tradeoffs.
  • We match recommendations to your situation (fitment, skill level, budget, and use case) instead of pushing one product on everyone.
  • We keep our picks current and re-check them as products and prices change.

How we make money
